PlayStation 5 Release Date Could Be in 2019, Analyst Notes

After Shawn Layden’s affirmation about the fact that the PS 5 is definitely happening, just about everyone is contemplating when exactly we would be able to see the promised new full generational console upgrade from Sony. But when some insight about the PS5 release date comes from a leading market analyst, people are bound to take notice.

Michael Pachter of Wedbush Securities has recently shed some light about what market conditions and developments will mean for the PlayStation 5, alongside talking about what Sony might deliver and how fans may receive the console. To go back a little, Layden had said that the PS5 was a step necessary for Sony as a gaming giant to truly be able to usher in the next generation. On this front, Pachter has some interesting things to note.

PlayStation 5 Release Date

In a recent interview, Pachter said that while he believed that Sony will definitely deliver on the full upgrade front, the possibility of the PS5 being backwards compatible with all PS4 Pro titles may be considered as something less by the market. The PS4 Pro, Pachter says, was a half step for the company as it came with a lot of technical improvements. On the other hand, the PS5 will be another half step towards a full generational upgrade. But from the company’s perspective, it will certainly represent a full step taken towards betterment.

Coming to the possible release date of the PS5, an insider had earlier stated that 2018 was not the year we can expect it to arrive, but 2019 could be a possibility. Pachter has backed this up, as he points out that Sony is aiming at the 4K market with the PlayStation 5, which will be a thriving entity by the time we reach 2019. “Sony is probably timing it better because they are going to bring out a 4K capable device when the 4K TV market reaches 50% in the USA and 35% in the rest of the world. I think Sony has probably got the next console cycle nailed down already,” he noted.

This also falls in line with what Layden had said about the PS5 release date. While he had confirmed that the new console was on the way, he said that chances were slim that it was arriving any time soon. On the other hand, however, you can expect a number of new PS5 features to make their way into the upcoming device. So stay put as we write about all the news and rumors related to the Sony PlayStation 5.
